Rustoleum gold sparkle paint
I turned the chest upside down to make the job easier. The legs got a coat of gold paint (here on Amazon) too. I always have wood knobs so I found 8 the same size and spray painted them with the Rust-Oleum metallic gold paint.īut I didn’t stop there. I looked through my knob stash but didn’t see anything I liked. In order to give this piece a modern look I did away with the original hardware. Moving on to the Rustoleum gold metallic spray paint. The semi-gloss paint I used besides being semi-gloss was old. You guys know that flat paint is the best for not showing brush marks, right. Genius huh! Usually you dip the edger in the tray of paint and then apply the paint to the surface but I couldn’t fit the edger in the paint bowl.Īfter my workaround the brush marks were still noticeable but not much. Then I used my paint edger to smooth out the paint. I used my brush to put paint globs (technical term) on the dresser. I was out of small sponge rollers so no rolling. I worked with what I had and figured out the best way to lessen the brush marks. The semi-gloss paint was leaving a lot of brush marks so as I do sometimes I did my own thing. Not the highest quality furniture although it is real wood. See the thin drawer glides on the sides and there are no cross pieces on the front between each drawer. I wanted you guys to see the inside of the chest. The primer just provides a nice base for the top coat. But first I wanted to apply a coat of primer. The paint I selected for the top coat is white semi-gloss paint left over from a past home paint project. More on that later.Īfter some thought I decided to go with glossy white paint. My plan was to remove the original knobs and pulls and find new knobs after the paint makeover. I paid $40 for it at a local indoor flea market. It’s a really cheap mid-century modern imitation.
This is how the chest of drawers looked before the makeover. No rough veneer, no distressed paint, no vintage feel. This furniture makeover is the total opposite of the last one.
You don’t have to go crazy with metallic paint. I’m patting myself on the back and eating a piece of chocolate.
When you see how I used the gold spray paint I think you’ll be impressed. The combination of Rustoleum metallic gold spray paint and glossy white paint is a winner….clean and classy.
